As Zac Efron's star was unveiled, the organization behind the Walk of Fame noted his successful career transition from his early fame in the High School Musical franchise to diverse roles. But during his speech, it was Perry's impact that Efron highlighted.

Efron expressed gratitude to Perry for motivating and propelling him into the next chapter of his career. He thanked the actor for his kindness and generosity on set, stating, "Collaborating with him and director Burr Steers - it was so much fun and really did propel me and motivate me in so many ways. It really pushed me into the next chapter of my career, and for that, thank you so much, Matthew. Thinking about you a lot today."

Perry's friend Athenna Crosby revealed that the late actor had expressed his desire for Efron to play him in a biopic. Crosby explained that Perry had been impressed by Efron's talents during their collaboration on 17 Again and wished to share more about his own life and recovery from addiction through a movie.

At the Hollywood Walk of Fame ceremony, Efron was honored with its 2,767th star, adding to the prestigious collection of iconic figures. Efron later expressed his gratitude and admiration for Perry, stating, "He was a mentor to me, and we made a really cool film together. I looked up to him, I learned comedic timing from that guy. I mean, when we were filming 17 Again, it was so surreal for me to look across and have him be there because I've learned so much from him, from his whole life."
