Renowned actor Richard Romanus, known for his captivating tough guy roles in film and television, passed away at the age of 80 in a hospital in Volos, Greece. The cause of his death was not disclosed, confirmed his son Robert.
During his illustrious career, Romanus portrayed several memorable characters. He notably played Harry Canyon, the cab driver featured in the animated film "Heavy Metal," and Richard LaPenna, the husband of Dr. Melfi in the critically acclaimed television series "The Sopranos." Romanus also portrayed the character of loanshark Michael Longo in the classic film "Mean Streets."
Throughout the 1970s, Romanus made his mark on television with appearances in popular shows such as "Mission: Impossible," "Starsky and Hutch," "Hawaii Five-0," "The Rockford Files," "Kojak," "Strike Force," and others.

Moreover, he showcased his literary prowess by authoring two novels set in Greece, namely "Chrysalis" (2011) and "Matoula's Echo" (2014).
Richard Romanus leaves behind his second wife, Anthea Sylbert, an Oscar-nominated costume designer renowned for her work in films like "Rosemary's Baby," "Chinatown," and "Julia." The couple tied the knot in August 1985. Additionally, he is survived by his son Robert and his younger brother Robert Romanus, known for his portrayal of Mike Damone in the iconic film "Fast Times at Ridgemont High."
