In a recent social media post, actor Josh Stewart sadly announced that his time playing the character of Will LaMontagne Jr. on Criminal Minds: Evolution has come to an end. Stewart expressed his gratitude to the fans, stating, "You guys have been the absolute best."

Stewart's portrayal of NOPD detective William LaMontagne Jr. began as a recurring role in Season 2 of the original CBS drama, Criminal Minds. Throughout the series, he made appearances in at least one episode each season and played a crucial role in the two-part Season 7 finale when his character married Special Agent J.J. Jareau, portrayed by A.J. Cook. In the first season of Evolution, he featured prominently in nine out of 10 episodes, revealing to J.J. his concerns about potentially having cancer.

The second season of Criminal Minds: Evolution is set to premiere later this year. The expansion of the original CBS series, which ran from 2005 to 2020, follows the FBI's elite team of criminal profilers as they confront an UnSub who, during the pandemic, creates a network of serial killers. As the world begins to recover and the network becomes operational, the team faces the daunting task of capturing these killers one by one.

While there is no official comment from the show's representatives regarding Stewart's departure, it marks a significant change in the evolving storyline. However, fans can still expect to see the original cast members, including Joe Mantegna, A.J. Cook, Kirsten Vangsness, Aisha Tyler, Adam Rodriguez, and Paget Brewster, reprising their roles. Additionally, actor Zach Gilford joined the first season as a recurring guest star, contributing to a season-long arc.

Criminal Minds: Evolution is produced by ABC Signature and CBS Studios. Showrunner Erica Messer, along with executive producers Breen Frazier, Chris Barbour, Glenn Kershaw, and Mark Gordon, continues to lead the production of this thrilling series. With Stewart's departure, fans eagerly anticipate the new directions and challenges that await the remaining characters in the upcoming second season.
