In the ongoing trial of actor Jonathan Majors, his ex-girlfriend Grace Jabbari took the witness stand for the third consecutive day, providing crucial testimony about the injuries she sustained on the night she was allegedly assaulted in March.
Jabbari faced intense questioning from Majors' defense attorney Priya Chaudhry, who focused on the severity of Jabbari's injuries. Chaudhry suggested that since Jabbari had gone to a nightclub immediately after the alleged assault, her injuries may not have been as serious as claimed.
Jabbari explained to the Manhattan jury that she had experienced adrenaline at the time and chose to ignore the pain. However, the next morning, she described feeling the full extent of her injuries, stating, "When I woke up, I felt like I had been hit by a bus."
During her testimony, Jabbari recounted an encounter with three strangers on the street after the alleged altercation with Majors. Feeling upset and not wanting to be alone, she accepted their invitation to Loosie's Nightclub in Manhattan's Lower East Side. Jabbari told the jury that she danced, had a few tequila shots, and shared Champagne with her newfound friends.
Jabbari also emphasized that the motive behind her decision to visit the nightclub was her distress over Majors' alleged infidelity, which had been weighing on her mind.
The assault in question is said to have occurred in the backseat of a private car service, as the couple traveled from Brooklyn to their Chelsea apartment on March 25. Jabbari testified that she discovered a text message on Majors' phone from another woman, which led to a physical altercation. According to Jabbari, Majors forcefully retrieved his phone, causing bruising, swelling, and excruciating pain. She suffered a swollen finger and a cut behind her ear as a result.
Surprisingly, the police were not contacted until the following day when Majors returned to their shared apartment in Chelsea. He found Jabbari asleep on the floor, prompting him to involve the authorities out of concern for her well-being. Jabbari disclosed that she had taken sleeping pills to help her endure the pain and fall asleep.
Throughout the trial, Jabbari became emotional while watching police footage of the search of her apartment and receiving medical attention. She had to momentarily leave the stand to compose herself, explaining to the officers in the video that she had been trying to sleep but ended up becoming sick due to her injuries.
As the trial progressed, the jury was shown surveillance footage from the nightclub. Chaudhry asked Jabbari about a possible head injury caused by hitting the DJ booth, to which Jabbari firmly denied. When Chaudhry queried if Jabbari felt blood on her head, she clarified that she did not touch behind her ear, where the cut was located.
Chaudhry also questioned Jabbari's actions during the night, specifically her habit of playing with and "fluffing" her hair despite her injuries. Jabbari explained that she was not focused on the pain at that point; she was consumed by her emotional distress.
During the cross-examination, Majors closely watched the video surveillance footage as he whispered with his attorney. His current girlfriend, Meagan Good, has been present throughout the proceedings.
Chaudhry challenged Jabbari's claims, suggesting that it was Jabbari who assaulted Majors in the car that night, not the other way around. The defense further argued that Jabbari fabricated the allegations as revenge after their breakup. Majors and Jabbari met on the set of Marvel's "Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania" in August 2021 and dated for two years before their relationship ended on the night of the alleged assault.
Chaudhry emphasized in her opening statement that the case revolved around the end of a relationship, rather than a crime committed by Mr. Majors.
Jonathan Majors is currently facing three misdemeanor counts of assault and harassment, to which he has pleaded not guilty. If convicted, he could potentially face up to a year in prison. The cross-examination of Grace Jabbari is expected to conclude on Friday, after which her colleague and friend, Holly Blakey, will be called to testify as the next witness.
