In a recent interview with The Wall Street Journal, Hollywood actress Angelina Jolie revealed that she would not pursue a career in Hollywood if she were to join the industry today. The 48-year-old actress expressed her discomfort with the public scrutiny that comes with being a Hollywood star and discussed her plans for the future.
Jolie, who comes from a family of actors including her father Jon Voight and late mother Marcheline Bertrand, decided to follow in their footsteps at a young age. However, the Academy Award winner acknowledged that the level of public exposure and expectation to share personal aspects of her life was not as prevalent when she first started out.
Reflecting on her upbringing in Hollywood, Jolie stated, "Because I grew up around Hollywood, I was never very impressed with it. I never bought into it as significant or important." However, she further elaborated that the intense media attention intensified over the years, particularly during her highly-publicized divorce from actor Brad Pitt.
Jolie and Pitt, who met on the set of their 2004 film "Mr. and Mrs. Smith," went on to become known as "Brangelina," a tabloid fixture. Their relationship garnered substantial media attention, leading to heightened stress and health problems for Jolie. She disclosed that her body reacts strongly to stress, experiencing fluctuating blood sugar levels and even developing Bell's palsy six months before her divorce.
Despite the challenges she faced in the industry, Jolie's passion for acting remains. She expressed interest in theater while indicating a desire to steer clear of the Hollywood spotlight. Jolie's decision to prioritize her well-being and privacy has influenced her choices in recent years, resulting in a limited number of film appearances since her divorce from Pitt.
Apart from her acting career, Jolie has dedicated a significant amount of time and effort to humanitarian work. After filming "Lara Croft: Tomb Raider" in war-torn Cambodia in 2001, she became involved with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees. Jolie has since made numerous field visits to refugee camps in various countries and considers many refugees her closest friends.
Jolie also emphasized the importance of her strong relationships with her six children. Following her divorce from Pitt, Jolie has focused on being present for her children and avoiding projects that would keep her away from them. The actress and Pitt share joint custody of their children, Maddox, Pax, Zahara, Shiloh, Knox, and Vivienne.
Looking ahead, Jolie expressed her intention to eventually move out of Los Angeles and spend more time at her home in Cambodia. She highlighted the desire for authenticity and the need to create a healthier environment for herself and her family. Jolie's candid interview provides insight into the complexities of navigating a career in Hollywood while balancing personal well-being and family life.
As Jolie continues to prioritize her own happiness and work on her humanitarian endeavors, fans eagerly await her future endeavors and the impact she will make beyond the silver screen.
