Adam Sandler is set to take on the role of a 70-year-old lizard named Leo in the upcoming Netflix animated movie, "Leo." The film revolves around Leo, who has served as a class pet for various fifth-grade students over the years. However, his peaceful existence is disrupted when he learns that he only has one year left to live. Determined to make the most of his remaining time, Leo plans to escape to freedom but finds himself undertaking a mission to rescue the students from their mean substitute teacher.

To bring Leo to life, Sandler revealed that he channeled the voice of late manager and producer Bernie Brillstein. Brillstein, who helped launch Saturday Night Live and managed several SNL stars, including Sandler himself, was imitated by the actor and his colleagues on set. Sandler decided to use Brillstein's voice for Leo, a wise and worldly lizard character. The film's writer-director, Robert Smigel, also shared that he used to impersonate Brillstein and found it fitting for Sandler's character portrayal.

"Leo" came to fruition while Sandler was already working on another film set during fifth grade. The idea for the storyline emerged from a concept involving a snake as the class pet. Smigel further developed the idea, creating a jaded lizard who has witnessed decades of fifth graders and their problems. The film humorously juxtaposes the trivial issues faced by the students with the advice and perspective offered by the experienced reptile.

The voice cast of "Leo" boasts a talented ensemble, with Bill Burr co-starring as Squirtle, a companion turtle who shares the classroom terrarium with Leo. According to Burr, working with Sandler was surreal, describing him as "the greatest guy ever." The film also features musical performances, although Burr's character remains song-free, humorously commenting on his own ability as a singer.

Sandler's real-life daughters and Smigel's sons are among the voice cast, lending their talents to the film. As co-director David Wachtenheim mentioned, the voices were meant to resemble those found in Peanuts cartoons, aiming for a natural and relatable tone.

"Leo" is set to stream on Netflix starting on Tuesday, November 21. Fans can look forward to Sandler's portrayal of the wise and jaded lizard as he guides the young students through their seemingly overwhelming problems.

In a heartwarming and comedic adventure, Adam Sandler brings his unique voice acting skills to "Leo," providing audiences with an entertaining tale of friendship, wisdom, and the importance of making the most of the time we have.
