With a career that spanned over five decades, Ashton became a familiar face on both television and the big screen. He appeared in notable films such as "Midnight Run," "Little Big League," and "Gone Baby Gone." However, it was his portrayal of Taggart in the "Beverly Hills Cop" franchise that endeared him to audiences. Apart from his iconic role in "Beverly Hills Cop," Ashton excelled in playing diverse characters. In Martin Brest's 1988 buddy comedy "Midnight Run," he took on the role of a rival bounty hunter, competing with Robert De Niro's character to capture Charles Grodin's wanted accountant. Ashton fondly recalled his experience auditioning with De Niro, sharing memories of their collaboration in an interview with Collider in July.
Ashton leaves behind a lasting legacy in Hollywood and his family, which includes his wife of 24 years, Robin Hoye, two children, three stepchildren, a grandson, two sisters, and a brother. His contributions to film and television will be remembered and cherished by fans and colleagues alike.
