A potential spinoff sequel to the beloved sitcom "Modern Family" has hit a roadblock, as actor Eric Stonestreet revealed in an interview with Graham Bensinger. The proposed series would have followed the lives of Cameron, Mitchell, and Lily after they moved to Missouri, but Stonestreet now believes the window for the spinoff has closed. He expressed disappointment over the decision to scrap the project, citing a great script penned by series co-creator Chris Lloyd that was ultimately rejected.

Stonestreet shared that the rejection led to hurt feelings for himself, Jesse Tyler Ferguson, and Chris Lloyd. Despite his fondness for his character and the show, Stonestreet speculated that the creators may have viewed him and Ferguson as the "old guys" not worthy of continuing their characters. The potential spinoff would have centered on the Tucker-Pritchett family as they navigate life in Missouri following the birth of their son, Rexford, and Cam pursuing his dream of coaching college football.

Stonestreet remained confident in the success of the spinoff, believing it would have been a "slam dunk" due to the involvement of the creators and the compelling storyline. However, the series did not come to fruition, with concerns raised about diluting the brand by pursuing a spinoff. While Stonestreet no longer sees a path forward for the sequel, he expressed openness to reuniting the "Modern Family" cast for a new project, possibly a Christmas special. The original series aired from 2009 to 2020, captivating audiences for 11 seasons with its ensemble cast.
