Renowned filmmaker Martin Scorsese is gearing up to showcase his directorial prowess in not one, but two highly-anticipated biopics. Variety reports that Scorsese is in talks to develop a film based on the life of legendary crooner Frank Sinatra, with Leonardo DiCaprio rumored to portray the iconic singer.
This isn't the first time Scorsese has been associated with a Sinatra biopic, but with DiCaprio's involvement and the backing of Sony, the project seems to have gained significant momentum. However, approval from Sinatra's daughter Tina, who controls her father's estate, is still pending.
Scorsese is also deep into pre-production for his ambitious project, "A Life of Jesus," which is based on "Silence" author Shūsaku Endō's 1973 book. The director has his sights set on casting Andrew Garfield, who previously worked with Scorsese on "Silence," as Jesus. Talks are also underway with Miles Teller to join the cast.
Production for "A Life of Jesus" is slated to commence later this year and is set to take place in Israel, Italy, and Egypt. The 80-minute film aims to explore the core teachings of Jesus in a manner that is easily accessible to audiences, without promoting any specific religious beliefs. Scorsese seeks to remove the negative connotations associated with organized religion through this rendition.
Furthermore, Scorsese's collaboration with DiCaprio doesn't end with the Sinatra biopic. The acclaimed director is also looking to cast Jennifer Lawrence, who recently starred alongside DiCaprio in "Don't Look Up," to portray Ava Gardner, Sinatra's second wife. Scorsese and DiCaprio have previously worked together on successful biopics such as "The Aviator" and "The Wolf of Wall Street."
In addition to these ambitious projects, Scorsese is teaming up with iconic filmmaker Steven Spielberg to produce a "Cape Fear" series for Apple TV+ while also helming a biblical series for Fox Nation. Spielberg, on the other hand, is venturing into the realm of sci-fi with an untitled UFO feature based on his original story.
As Martin Scorsese continues to push boundaries and tackle diverse themes, film enthusiasts eagerly await the release of these highly-anticipated biopics and collaborative projects, where his storytelling prowess and the talents of his esteemed cast are sure to captivate audiences worldwide.
