In an exclusive report, it has been confirmed that actor Jonathan Majors is set to take on the lead role in the upcoming revenge thriller, "Merciless." The film, based on an original screenplay by Frank Hannah, will be helmed by Martin Villeneuve, best known for his sci-fi opus "Mars et Avril."
"Merciless" follows the story of a top CIA interrogator named John, portrayed by Majors, who is pushed to his limits when the woman he loves becomes possessed by a malevolent force. Determined to save her, he is forced to descend into darkness and confront supernatural forces that challenge his sanity.
The project is set to begin principal photography in Saskatchewan in late fall, offering a haunting narrative that intertwines themes of possession, revenge, and personal justice. Villeneuve describes the film as an exploration of John's psychological descent and the relentless supernatural obstacles he faces.
The development of "Merciless" is credited to producer Christopher Tuffin, who is set to unveil his new global media venture during the Toronto Film Festival. Tuffin's approach to filmmaking is said to be disruptive in nature, refusing to let public opinion and selective prosecution undermine the art and artists involved.
Tuffin played a significant role in the success of the box office hit "Sound of Freedom," which grossed over $250 million worldwide theatrically and $400 million across all media platforms during the previous summer.
Reflecting on his own experiences, Tuffin emphasizes the importance of due process and acknowledges the honor and privilege of working with Jonathan Majors, recognizing the actor's talent now that his legal matter has been resolved. Majors had previously faced a third-degree assault and harassment conviction earlier this year, resulting in his departure from Marvel's MCU and the postponement of his movie "Magazine Dreams."
The production team for "Merciless" includes producers Kevin Townsend and Kevin DeWalt, with Amanda Delaplaine, Chris Ochs, Andrew Bates, and Ben DeWalt serving as executive producers. Majors is represented by WME, while Villeneuve is represented by Gersh and The Characters Talent Agency.
As fans eagerly await the release of "Merciless," the film promises to captivate audiences with its intense storyline, compelling performances, and Villeneuve's visionary direction.
