The movie will be directed by Dan Trachtenberg, known for his work on the critically acclaimed "Prey." Trachtenberg will also be co-writing the script with Patrick Aison for 20th Century Studios.
Following the tremendous success of Trachtenberg's "Prey" - a "Predator" prequel that garnered critical acclaim and set records upon its release on Hulu - "Badlands" was announced in February. The film is scheduled to begin production later this year, with plot details being kept tightly under wraps.
Elle Fanning, who recently wrapped up a three-season run on Hulu's "The Great" as executive producer and star, has earned herself an Emmy nomination for outstanding lead actress in a comedy series for her portrayal of Russian monarch Catherine the Great. Fanning's diverse acting career spans 20 years, encompassing a wide range of roles, from her breakout turn in J.J. Abrams' 2011 sci-fi film "Super 8" to playing Disney princess Aurora in the "Maleficent" movies.
In her upcoming projects, Fanning will be seen in James Mangold's "A Complete Unknown," where she will star opposite Timothee Chalamet as Sylvie Russo. However, her potential involvement in "Badlands" marks an exciting addition to her already impressive filmography.
While 20th Century Studios declined to comment on Fanning's involvement in the film, Deadline was the first to report the news. Fans eagerly await further updates about "Badlands" and the expansion of the beloved "Predator" universe.
