The emotional motion picture collected an impressive $30.5 million on Friday, bringing its domestic earnings to a staggering $285.7 million in just eight days of release.

Surpassing the highly-anticipated "Dune: Part Two," which has earned $282 million, "Inside Out 2" showcases the enduring popularity of the beloved franchise. The film has also set its sights on breaking another record, with the potential to have the biggest second weekend ever for an animated film. Currently, that honor belongs to last year's "The Super Mario Bros. Movie," which garnered $92.3 million in its second weekend.

The success of "Inside Out 2" comes as a welcome relief for Disney and Pixar, following a string of underperforming summer releases. The film's achievement is a testament to the enduring emotional connection and storytelling prowess that the studios continue to deliver.

In third place, Focus Features' "The Bikeriders" made a solid debut, raking in $4 million from 2,641 theaters during Friday and preview screenings. The drama, directed by Jeff Nichols, was originally slated for release under Disney and 20th Century Studios. However, due to the Hollywood strikes, the film faced delays and was eventually picked up by Universal's Focus. With positive reviews and a talented cast including Austin Butler, Jodie Comer, and Tom Hardy, "The Bikeriders" has the potential for a successful run, despite its $40 million production budget.

Sony and Columbia's "Bad Boys: Ride or Die" claimed the second spot, projecting an $18.4 million intake in its third weekend. This action sequel, starring Will Smith and Martin Lawrence, is poised to surpass $150 million domestically and currently ranks as the sixth-highest-grossing film of 2024. The film has outperformed Sony's "Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire," which stood at $113 million in earnings.

Meanwhile, "The Garfield Movie," financed by Alcon, remains in fourth place, expected to accumulate $3.2 million in its fifth weekend. As the animated feature competes with the spotlight on "Inside Out 2," it is on track to surpass $85 million in domestic earnings by Sunday.

Lastly, "Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes," a sci-fi sequel by 20th Century Studios and Disney, continues to hold its ground in the top five. The film looks to add approximately $4 million in its seventh weekend, bringing its domestic total to over $160 million.

As the summer movie season progresses, "Inside Out 2" shines as the prevailing force at the North American box office, captivating audiences with its touching narrative and beloved characters.
