In a recent interview with MusicTech, David Eriksson, co-founder of Teenage Engineering, spoke about the 'Fadergate' issue surrounding their latest product, the EP-133 K.O.II sampler. The term 'Fadergate' was coined by online users who reported problems with the sampler's fader.

Eriksson acknowledged the issue and stated that the company had taken precautions to prevent such problems. He mentioned their efforts to anticipate potential production and cosmetic issues and the use of fixtures, tools, and automation during the manufacturing process.

Since its release in November 2023, several customers have complained about the fader becoming unresponsive. Reviews on retail sites like Thomann mentioned delivery of broken devices due to inadequate packaging.

While Eriksson emphasized that the faders are initially tested and calibrated before leaving the factory, he admitted surprise at the rate of transport-related damage seen with the EP-133 sampler. However, he assured customers that the next batch of samplers would have improved packaging to minimize the risk of damage during transit.

Eriksson explained that the initial batch had packaging dimension mistakes, with some stores treating the EP-133 as a 10-inch vinyl package and shipping it without sufficient padding. He also admitted a design flaw, lacking proper protection for the fader. However, this flaw has been rectified in the new packaging, which has undergone rigorous testing, including being thrown against walls without breaking.

In addition to addressing the 'Fadergate' issue, Eriksson announced that Teenage Engineering plans to provide an online tour of their factory, showcasing the machinery used to build the EP-133 K.O.II sampler. He expressed excitement about the upcoming plans and the stability achieved in the product, hinting at additional features yet to be unveiled.

As Teenage Engineering continues to address and rectify the 'Fadergate' issue, customers can look forward to improved packaging and the assurance of a high-quality EP-133 K.O.II sampler in the next batch.
