Mojang, the creators behind the popular open-world block-building game Minecraft, has announced that support for Minecraft Legends, a real-time strategy spin-off, will be ending after less than a year of its launch. The news was shared in a recent blog post on the official Minecraft website by senior creative writer Cristina Anderca.

The post introduces the "final" Lost Legends update, titled Snow vs Snouts. However, Anderca goes on to explain the future plans for Minecraft Legends, revealing that the development team at Blackbird Interactive will be taking "a step back from development."

Minecraft Legends was released on the Nintendo Switch on April 18th, 2023, which means the game did not even last for nine months. Despite the short lifespan, Anderca appreciates the support received from the community since the game's launch. In her statement, she expresses gratitude for the community's help in shaping the game and mentions their intention to continue playing alongside the players.

The Snow vs Snouts update introduces a more powerful version of a redstone launcher, which players can use to destroy piglin bases. One notable difference from previous Lost Legend modes is the absence of other entities like mobs and the inability to build.

Currently, Minecraft Legends has received mixed reviews on Steam, with over 2,000 fan reviews resulting in an average rating. The game also received lukewarm reviews on review aggregation platforms. OpenCritic rates it at 70%, while Metacritic has an average score of 71 on the Xbox Series and 65 on PC. In our own review, we gave the game a 4/10 rating, referring to it as "easily the worst Minecraft spinoff Mojang has produced."

The announcement of ending support for Minecraft Legends has surprised some players. If you have played the game, let us know your thoughts and whether you are surprised by this development in the comments section.

Despite the conclusion of updates and future content releases, Minecraft Legends players can still enjoy the game. Additionally, the final update comes with a gift for players, the Bright-Eyed Hero skin, which can be claimed in the Minecraft Legends Marketplace.

While Minecraft Legends may not have had the lasting impact of its predecessor, it remains to be seen what the future holds for the franchise and if any new projects will capture the attention of players.
