Ford Recalls Nearly 113,000 F-150 Pickup Trucks Over Rear Axle Hub Concerns

Ford Motor Company has issued a recall for approximately 113,000 F-150 pickup trucks due to potential safety issues with the rear axle hub. The recall affects specific 2021-2023 F-150 vehicles equipped with the Trailer Tow Max Duty package and a 9.75-inch heavy-duty axle with a 3/4 float axle design, as announced by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) on Tuesday.
According to the notice, there is a risk that the rear axle hub bolt may undergo fatigue and break, which could lead to damage of the axle hub splines. This damage can result in the vehicle rolling away while in park or experiencing a loss of drive power, both of which pose an increased risk of a crash, according to the NHTSA.
Ford is currently working on a solution to address this issue. In the meantime, the NHTSA advises owners of the affected pickups who experience any problems related to the rear axle bolt, such as clicking or rattling noises, to bring their vehicles to a dealer for a temporary repair. For further information or to ask questions about the recall, owners can contact Ford customer service at (866) 436-7332. The recall identification number for this specific issue is "23S65."
In addition, concerned owners may reach out to the NHTSA's safety hotline at (888) 327-4236 (toll-free at 1-800-424-9153) or visit their website at www.nhtsa.gov for further information on the recall.
This is not the first recall Ford has faced regarding axle issues this year. In October, the company recalled over 238,000 Explorers in the United States due to faulty rear axle bolts.
The safety and well-being of consumers remain a top priority for Ford, and the company is committed to resolving this issue promptly and efficiently to ensure the continued safe operation of its vehicles.
