VF Corporation, the Denver, Colorado-based owner of popular apparel brands including Vans, Supreme, and The North Face, has confirmed that it has fallen victim to a cyberattack, impacting the company's ability to fulfill orders just days before Christmas, one of the busiest retail events of the year.

According to a filing with federal regulators, VF Corporation first detected the cyberattack on December 13. Hackers have disrupted the company's operations by encrypting some of its IT systems and stealing data, including personal information, suggesting a ransomware attack may be at play.

The cyberattack has caused significant disruptions, including a hindrance in the company's ability to fulfill orders. TechCrunch's attempt to place an order on the Vans website revealed a message apologizing for logistical disruptions and acknowledging incorrect estimated delivery dates. Customers will be notified by email once their items are shipped and can track them using the shipping information provided.

Despite the cyberattack, VF Corporation stated that its retail stores worldwide remain open, and customers can still purchase available merchandise online. However, the company did not provide an exact timeline for when orders are expected to ship.

VF Corp. spokesperson Colin Wheeler emphasized that the company is cooperating with authorities and their filing with regulators reflects the current state of affairs. However, the spokesperson did not disclose further details regarding the incident or confirm whether a ransom demand had been made by the hackers.

At present, VF Corporation has not released information concerning the extent of the compromise, the specific types of accessed data, or the number of individuals affected by the breach, whether they be employees or customers. Additionally, the identity of the attackers, who have not claimed responsibility and are not affiliated with any known ransomware group, remains unknown.

The retail giant warned in its regulatory filing that the cyberattack will have a significant impact on its business until its systems are fully recovered. VF Corporation stated, "As the investigation of the incident is ongoing, the full scope, nature, and impact of the incident are not yet known."

Unfortunately, without further information, customers and stakeholders will have to wait for additional updates from VF Corporation as the investigation unfolds.
