0, as well as all CableMod 12VHPWR 90° and 180° Angled Adapters V1.1. The company urged consumers to stop using these adapters due to reported burning incidents with GPUs.
Following the recall, the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has released a report stating that CableMod has recalled a total of 25,300 adapters. This significant number reflects the company's commitment to addressing the issue promptly and ensuring customer safety.
The CPSC report also reveals that CableMod suffered a financial setback of over $74,000 due to the product recall. This figure accounts for property damages caused by the adapters. According to CPSC data, there have been 272 incidents of GPU melting associated with CableMod adapters. However, considering the longstanding nature of this issue since the launch of NVIDIA's Ada Lovelace lineup, the actual number of incidents may be higher, particularly for their flagship variant.
For affected consumers, the CPSC advises immediate discontinuation of the use of the recalled angled adapters. It is recommended to contact CableMod for guidance on safely removing the adapter from the GPU and to initiate a refund process. Consumers will have the option of either a full refund with shipping costs included or a $60 store credit for non-customized products, with free standard shipping. Instructions on proper adapter removal can be found on CableMod's website, where consumers will also be required to provide a photo of the destroyed product as proof.
It is worth noting that there have been no reported injuries associated with the use of CableMod's angled adapters. However, the company has received 272 reports of the adapters becoming loose, overheating, and melting into the GPU, resulting in property damage claims totaling $74,500 in the United States alone.
Given the current lack of viable alternative options in the market for third-party connectors, it is strongly recommended for users to exercise caution or seek alternatives if they are using CableMod angled adapters. Official cable adapters that come bundled with power supplies are considered a safer bet for connecting GPUs.
CableMod is working diligently to rectify the situation and ensure the safety of its customers. It remains crucial for consumers to heed the recall and follow the instructions provided by CPSC and CableMod for a safe resolution.
