Apple's highly anticipated Vision Pro headset is set to launch in 2024, with fans eagerly awaiting its arrival. However, exciting news has surfaced that Apple is already working on the second-generation version of the Vision Pro, expected to feature significant improvements in display technology.

According to a report by The Elec, Apple has plans to upgrade the display on the Vision Pro 2. While the current model utilizes WOLED (white organic light-emitting diode) displays, the upcoming Vision Pro 2 will introduce a revolutionary OLEDoS (organic light-emitting diode on substrate) display. This upgraded display technology will bring forth several benefits, including improved brightness and enhanced efficiency.

One notable advantage of the RGB OLEDoS displays over the WOLED displays is the method by which color and light are produced. RGB OLEDoS displays produce color and light from the nearby RGB sub-pixels on a single layer, eliminating the need for an additional color filter. In contrast, WOLED displays rely on an RGB color layer to filter out white light. This new approach not only results in brighter displays but also contributes to better battery life.

Although the original Vision Pro may have limitations in terms of battery life, the Vision Pro 2, with its updated display technology, aims to address this concern. By adopting RGB OLEDoS displays, Apple hopes to enhance the headset's overall battery performance.

One key detail mentioned in the report is that Samsung could potentially be the sole supplier of RGB OLEDoS displays for Apple. Following Samsung's acquisition of eMagin in early 2023, they have the capability to provide the necessary displays. This potential collaboration could result in Samsung securing Apple's business, potentially displacing Sony as the supplier for Apple's display technology.

However, it is worth noting that the release of the Vision Pro 2 is still a few years away, slated for a 2027 launch, as mentioned by industry analyst Mong-Chi Kuo. Apple is expected to focus on optimizing the WOLED displays for the Vision Pro during this interim period.

While rumors of budget variants of the Vision Pro circulating for a 2025 release have previously made headlines, it is important to take such reports with a grain of salt. Ultimately, the final decision rests with Apple, and until further information is provided, the future of the Vision Pro lineup remains uncertain.

Stay tuned for more updates on this exciting development as more details emerge. With Apple's commitment to innovation, the Vision Pro 2 is poised to redefine the standards for wearable technology with its brighter and more efficient display.
