In an unexpected twist, Apple has officially confirmed that iOS 17.3 will be launched next week. The announcement came hidden in the fine print of a press release detailing the release of the new Black Unity collection on January 17.
One of the highlights of iOS 17.3 is the Unity Bloom iPhone and iPad wallpaper, designed specifically for the Lock Screen. This wallpaper will require the use of iPhone Xs or later models running the upcoming update. This information strongly suggests that the iOS 17.3 update will be made available simultaneously with the launch of the new Black Unity collection.
The Unity Bloom wallpaper joins Apple's line of Black Unity wallpapers, which are regularly introduced for iPhone, iPad, and Apple Watch users. Coinciding with the release of iOS 17.3, Apple will also unveil a new Black Unity sport band for the Apple Watch.
Beyond the aesthetic additions, iOS 17.3 brings several noteworthy features. The standout feature is the introduction of the Stolen Device Protection System, a security enhancement aimed at preventing unauthorized access to stolen iPhones. With this system in place, certain actions cannot be performed without the owner's biometric data, such as using payment information saved on the device. Additionally, a one-hour security delay will be implemented for features like changing passcodes, as well as adding or removing Face and Touch ID.
Furthermore, iOS 17.3 will reintroduce the Collaborative Playlist option for Apple Music subscribers. Initially intended for release with iOS 17.2 but delayed due to concerns about potential misuse, this feature enables users to create and share communal playlists. Users can also react to each other's song selections.
While iOS 17.3 may not boast revolutionary changes, it does bring a welcome set of new features. Apple enthusiasts await the update, hoping that it will not be plagued by the bugs that affected the second beta release.
Looking ahead, Apple is expected to announce iOS 18 at the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) in June 2024. Rumors suggest that iOS 18 will introduce innovative Apple AI features and an improved Siri.
Apple users eagerly anticipate the arrival of iOS 17.3, eagerly awaiting the release of the Black Unity collection alongside the update. With enhanced security measures and the reintroduction of collaborative playlists, iOS 17.3 aims to enhance the user experience while setting the stage for future innovations from Apple.
