In preparation for the upcoming NFL draft, the Washington Commanders are carefully evaluating their options, with General Manager Adam Peters at the helm. Amidst speculation surrounding their use of the No. 2 overall pick, Peters has been fielding inquiries from other teams interested in trading up.

Following a busy month of free agency in March, Peters bolstered the Commanders' roster with key acquisitions, including quarterback Marcus Mariota, running back Austin Ekeler, tight end Zach Ertz, linebacker Bobby Wagner, and safety Jeremy Chinn. With the departure of their 2023 starter, Sam Howell, who was traded to the Seattle Seahawks, Mariota and Jake Fromm currently fill the quarterback room in Washington.

As the draft approaches, the Commanders understand the significance of this premium pick at No. 2, and Peters is diligently assessing all potential trade offers. The phone lines have been buzzing with interest from teams looking to make a move. The depth of talent available in this year's draft class has prompted Peters to take these inquiries seriously, with the aim of maximizing value for the Commanders.

Head Coach Quinn acknowledges the ongoing evaluation process, stating, "I still have a lot of work to do in that space. We really dug in hard on our own team and the free agent process. As we're finalizing things on the draft side, there's still more to do – visits, potential trade discussions. We're getting closer, but we're not there just yet."

The Chicago Bears' decision with the No. 1 overall pick will have a significant impact on Washington's draft strategy. The departure of quarterback Justin Fields after a trade with the Pittsburgh Steelers has led many to believe that USC prospect Caleb Williams is the frontrunner to go first overall. However, what happens beyond Chicago's pick remains uncertain.

While Peters has a background in the draft process from his time with the San Francisco 49ers, he is keen to explore all potential opportunities. Quinn reflects on the importance of due diligence when considering trade possibilities, recalling a significant trade involving Herschel Walker during his tenure with the Dallas Cowboys. He notes that although Peters is open to listening to offers, only the most enticing and beneficial proposals will be seriously considered.

As the Commanders continue their meticulous preparations, the countdown to the NFL draft intensifies. With a wealth of talent available and teams eager to secure their desired players, the Commanders are finely tuning their strategy to ensure a successful draft outcome.
