USWNT Forward Mia Fishel Sidelined Due to Knee Injury, Alex Morgan Steps In for Concacaf W Gold Cup

San Diego Wave FC forward Alex Morgan is set to replace Mia Fishel on the U.S. Women's National Team roster for the 2024 Concacaf W Gold Cup after Fishel suffered a torn ACL in her right knee during training on February 19. U.S. interim head coach Twila Kilgore expressed disappointment over Fishel's injury, highlighting her contributions and growth mindset within the team.

Morgan, boasting an impressive career with 215 caps and 121 international goals, will wear the number seven jersey during the tournament to replace Fishel as per the competition's rules. She will make her first appearance in the Concacaf W Gold Cup today against the Dominican Republic at Dignity Health Sports Park in Carson, California.

The USWNT's Concacaf W Gold Cup journey starts today, facing the Dominican Republic before taking on Argentina on February 23 and Mexico on February 26. All matches will kick off at 7:15 p.m. PT / 10:15 p.m. ET at Dignity Health Sports Park.

The tournament structure will see the top two finishers from each group progressing to the knockout stage, which begins with the Quarterfinals at BMO Stadium in Los Angeles on March 2 and 3. The Semifinals and Final will take place at San Diego's Snapdragon Stadium on March 6 and 10, respectively.
