The University of Texas recently announced the extension of head coach Steve Sarkisian's contract through the 2030 season. Sarkisian's salary will see a significant increase, rising from $5.8 million to $10.3 million for the 2024 season. Additionally, he is set to receive a raise of $100,000 per year until the final year of his contract in 2030. This substantial raise will place Sarkisian among the top-10 highest-paid coaches in college football.
As part of the extension, Sarkisian will also receive a special one-time payment of $300,000 by April 1 of this year. The contract includes various bonuses based on the team's performance, with the potential for Sarkisian to earn up to $1.85 million annually in bonuses. Sarkisian can earn bonuses for achievements such as reaching the conference championship game, winning it, making a bowl game, and progressing through the College Football Playoff stages.
In addition to Sarkisian, Texas tight ends coach Jeff Banks, offensive coordinator Kyle Flood, and defensive coordinator Pete Kwiatkowski have also received contract extensions. Banks will be paid $1.15 million in 2024, $1.2 million in 2025, and $1.25 million in 2026. Flood's contract has been extended through 2026, with a salary of $1.325 million in 2024, $1.4 million in 2025, and $1.475 million in 2026. Kwiatkowski's extension took his pay from $1.7 million in 2024 to $1.8 million for the upcoming season, with further increases to $1.9 million in 2025 and $2 million in 2026.
Sarkisian and his coaching staff, consisting of Banks, Flood, Kwiatkowski, and several other coaches, have been with the program since Sarkisian's appointment as head coach in 2021. The Longhorns had a successful season in 2023, finishing with a 12-2 record, winning the Big 12 conference, and securing a spot in the College Football Playoff.
