In a thrilling Easter Sunday matchup, the Detroit Tigers secured a nail-biting 3-2 victory over the Chicago White Sox, completing a remarkable three-game sweep to start their season with a perfect 3-0 record.

Making his Tigers debut, pitcher Jack Flaherty showcased his skills on the mound. Despite a challenging 2022 season marred by shoulder injuries, Flaherty's performance impressed the Tigers coaching staff, who may have unlocked his potential. Utilizing his slider and a mid-90s four-seam fastball, Flaherty kept the White Sox batters at bay.

Both Flaherty and his counterpart, Erick Fedde, started the game strongly, giving up only a couple of innocuous singles. The contest remained scoreless until the bottom of the third inning when Korey Lee blasted a solo home run, putting the White Sox ahead 1-0. Flaherty managed to escape a potentially dangerous situation, striking out Eloy Jiménez with a well-placed low-and-outside slider.

The Tigers quickly responded in the fourth inning when Kerry Carpenter hit a solo home run to right field, leveling the score at 1-1. The game remained tightly contested until the top of the fifth, where Jake Rogers launched a solo homer, giving Detroit a 2-1 lead.

As the game progressed, both teams had their moments, with some missed opportunities and defensive mishaps. In the sixth inning, a throwing error by Paul DeJong allowed Mark Canha to advance to third. However, an ambitious attempt to score ended in disappointment for Canha as he was thrown out at home by a considerable margin.

Flaherty continued his dominant performance through the sixth inning before being relieved by Andrew Chafin in the seventh. Unfortunately for the Tigers, DeJong managed to hit a game-tying home run, knotting the score at 2-2.

The intensity heightened in the ninth inning as the Tigers mounted a late rally. With two outs and two runners on base, Andy Ibáñez delivered a clutch single to left field, scoring pinch-runner Matt Vierling from second and giving the Tigers a 3-2 lead.

Tyler Holton took over pitching duties in the eighth, striking out the side and maintaining the Tigers' slim advantage. In the ninth, Holton continued to shine, fanning pinch-hitter Gavin Sheets. Jason Foley entered the game, sealing the victory for the Tigers by inducing a groundout to secure the sweep.

The Tigers' impressive start to the season sets the stage for their upcoming three-game series against the New York Mets, with the first game taking place on Monday.

While the Tigers' offense showcased its power with home runs from Jake Rogers and Kerry Carpenter, the team's pitching staff, led by Jack Flaherty, delivered an outstanding performance, stifling the White Sox lineup and keeping them in check throughout the series.

As the Tigers celebrate their triumphant sweep, they look to build on this momentum and continue their winning ways in the early stages of the season.
