In preparation for their upcoming home opener, the San Diego Padres have made some final adjustments to their 26-man roster. Left-hander Adrián Morejón has been optioned to Triple-A El Paso, while right-handers Pedro Avila, Dylan Cease, and Matt Waldron have all been added to the roster after serving as designated extras in last week's Seoul Series.

The decision to option Morejón came down to a choice between him and Avila for the swing-man spot on the roster. With Avila being out of options, it made the decision relatively simple as it is the last year that Morejón has minor league options. Ultimately, the Padres opted to keep Avila in the organization.

The rest of the 26-man roster remains as expected, with a total of 10 right-handed pitchers, including Avila, Cease, and Waldron. The team also has three left-handed pitchers and a lineup of seven infielders, four outfielders, and their star shortstop, Fernando Tatis Jr.

The Giants, their opponents for the home opener, have announced their lineup for the first game of the four-game series at Petco Park. The Padres will face off against Giants pitcher Logan Webb, who had an impressive season in 2023, finishing second in NL Cy Young voting.

Webb boasts a career ERA of 2.50 in 57⅔ innings against the Padres. In their last encounter, he completed a win by striking out seven over nine innings of one-run ball. However, Padres' pitcher Yu Darvish will be on the mound for the home team and has struggled in the past against the Giants, with a career ERA of 6.23 in six starts.

Darvish allowed eight runs in 12 innings against San Francisco last year, making it a matchup to watch. Both pitchers will have the opportunity to showcase their skills against each other once again, continuing their ongoing battle on the mound.

As the Padres gear up for their home opener, fans eagerly await the start of the game, hoping for an exciting showdown between two talented teams. The stage is set, and the players are ready to take the field as the new season unfolds.
