The New York Giants are actively seeking to bolster their quarterback situation for the upcoming 2024 NFL season. Rumors have emerged that the Giants are willing to trade up in the first round of the draft to secure a potential successor to current quarterback Daniel Jones.
According to SNYtv, the Giants have expressed their willingness to move up from their current No. 6 overall pick in order to secure one of the top quarterbacks in the 2024 NFL Draft. However, this task may prove to be difficult as they face competition from other teams also in the market for a quarterback.
The Bears, Commanders, and Patriots, who hold the first three draft positions, are all reportedly in search of a new quarterback. Consequently, if the Giants wish to trade up, it may come at a significant cost, most likely in the form of future high draft picks. Additionally, the possibility of including Daniel Jones in any potential trade is complicated due to his salary.
Alternatively, the Giants may choose to remain at their current draft spot and assess the available options. While there is a likelihood that top quarterback prospects Caleb Williams, Jayden Daniels, and Drake Maye will be off the board by then, there remains a possibility that one of these players could fall to the Giants. Caleb Williams, in particular, is an intriguing choice as he decided to skip medical exams at the NFL Scouting Combine, potentially affecting his draft stock.
In the event that these quarterbacks are no longer available at the No. 6 pick, the Giants still have attractive options to consider. Promising prospects such as J.J. McCarthy, Michael Penix Jr., and Bo Nix could be potential targets for the Giants. Moreover, the Giants may also explore selecting Spencer Rattler or Michael Pratt on Day 2 or Day 3 of the draft.
General Manager Joe Schoen expressed confidence in the depth of this year's quarterback draft class, stating, "It's a good quarterback draft. It's not just at the top. There's some guys that are mid-levels that I think will be good No. 2s. There's some guys that could be No. 3s in the draft. So yeah, I think it's a solid draft all over."
What is evident is that the Giants are determined to upgrade their quarterback room ahead of the 2024 season. Whether they are successful in trading up or opt to select a quarterback at their current spot, the team aims to secure a talented successor to Daniel Jones to lead them into the future.
