The trade involved the Predators giving up a fifth-round pick in the upcoming 2024 NHL Draft in exchange for Beauvillier.
Beauvillier, 26, has had an impressive season, contributing 14 points (4 goals and 10 assists) in 45 games split between Chicago and Vancouver. This marks his eighth season in the NHL. The skilled forward started the 2023-24 campaign with the Canucks, where he recorded eight points (2 goals and 6 assists) in 22 games before being traded to the Blackhawks on November 29. In Chicago, Beauvillier went on to accumulate six points (2 goals and 4 assists) in 23 appearances, averaging 14 minutes and 22 seconds of ice time.
Originally selected by the New York Islanders in the first round (28th overall) of the 2015 NHL Draft, Beauvillier brings considerable experience to the Predators' lineup, having played 535 career NHL games. The majority of his career, 457 games to be exact, were spent with the Islanders from 2016 to 2023. Last season, he achieved a career-high of 40 points (18 goals and 22 assists) playing for both the Islanders and the Canucks. During his time with the Islanders, Beauvillier tallied at least 15 goals in three consecutive seasons between 2017 and 2021, coincidentally, with Barry Trotz as his head coach.
Not only has Beauvillier showcased his skills in the regular season, but he has also proven to be a valuable asset in the Stanley Cup Playoffs. In 49 career playoff games, he has amassed 29 points (15 goals and 14 assists). Notably, Beauvillier reached the third round of the postseason in consecutive seasons with Trotz and the Islanders in 2019-20 and 2020-21.
On the international stage, Beauvillier has represented Canada on multiple occasions. His most recent international stint came at the 2019 World Championship, and he has also participated in the 2016 World Junior Championship, 2015 U-18 World Championship (earning a bronze medal), and the 2014 Hlinka Gretzky Cup (earning a gold medal).
Before turning pro, Beauvillier honed his skills with the QMHL's Shawinigan Cataractes for three seasons. In 2014-15, he earned a spot on the league's Second All-Star Team by posting impressive numbers, recording 94 points (42 goals and 52 assists) in 67 games.
Following this trade, the Nashville Predators now hold a total of 10 picks in the upcoming 2024 NHL Draft. The picks include three in the second and fourth rounds, two in the third round, and one in the first and sixth rounds.
