Minnesota Wild Acquire Turner Elson from New York Rangers in Exchange for Nic Petan

In an announcement made today, Minnesota Wild President of Hockey Operations and General Manager Bill Guerin revealed that the National Hockey League (NHL) club has completed a trade with the New York Rangers. As part of the deal, the Wild received forward Turner Elson, while forward Nic Petan was sent to the Rangers.

Elson, 31 years old, brings with him a wealth of experience, having played in 579 games over 13 seasons in the American Hockey League (AHL). Throughout his AHL career, Elson has notched an impressive 263 points, including 117 goals and 146 assists, along with 433 penalty minutes. He has also scored 13 power-play goals and 14 game-winning goals. Elson most recently played for the Hartford team, where this season he accumulated 12 points and 23 penalty minutes in 38 games.

Although Elson has primarily played in the AHL, he has had a taste of NHL action, skating in three games with the Calgary Flames in the 2015-2016 season and the Detroit Red Wings in the 2021-2022 season, where he recorded an assist.

In exchange, the Rangers received Nic Petan, a 28-year-old forward who has spent his career in the AHL. Petan has appeared in 281 career AHL games, notching an impressive 281 points, including 92 goals and 189 assists. He has played for teams such as Manitoba, Toronto, Abbotsford, and Iowa.

With the acquisition of Elson, the Wild strengthen their roster and add depth to their lineup. Elson will report to the Iowa Wild, the team's AHL affiliate, to continue his professional career.
