In a heartbreaking turn of events, Minnesota Twins' up-and-coming star, Royce Lewis, was forced to exit the Opening Day game due to a right quad injury. This setback comes after Lewis had already showcased his immense talent with a home run and a single in his first two plate appearances of the season.

The injury occurred in the third inning against the Kansas City Royals, as Lewis sprinted around second base while chasing a two-out RBI double by Carlos Correa. This unfortunate incident brings back memories of Lewis' previous struggles, having missed significant game time in the past due to two consecutive torn right anterior cruciate ligaments (ACLs).

After a lengthy recovery, Lewis returned to action in May 2023 and quickly established himself as a rising star. Throughout the season, he displayed his prowess at the plate, boasting an impressive batting average of .309 with a .372 on-base percentage and a .548 slugging percentage. With 15 home runs in just 239 plate appearances, Lewis proved to be a force to be reckoned with.

His impressive regular season performance carried into the postseason, where Lewis continued to shine. He hit four home runs, including two during his first-ever playoff game. Unfortunately, injuries continued to plague him, limiting his playing time to only 58 games in 2023.

Lewis missed 36 games in July and August due to an oblique strain and was later sidelined for the final 10 games of the regular season with a hamstring injury. In spite of these setbacks, Lewis had already showcased his potential and left fans eagerly anticipating his future contributions to the Twins' lineup.

The extent of Lewis' quad injury and the expected recovery timeline have yet to be determined. However, this latest setback serves as a reminder of the challenges he has faced in his young career. The Twins' organization and fans alike will undoubtedly be hoping for a swift recovery for this budding star, who has already shown immense promise on the field.
