Mac McClung, a player for the Orlando Magic's G League affiliate, the Osceola Magic, impressed fans and judges alike at NBA All-Star Weekend in Indianapolis by clinching the NBA Slam Dunk Contest for the second year in a row. With only four previous NBA games to his name, McClung stood out by defeating notable players such as Jaylen Brown, Jacob Toppin, and Jaime Jaquez Jr. In the final round, McClung wowed the crowd with a perfect score dunk, showcasing his skills in a thrilling manner. His final dunk involved putting basketball legend Shaquille O'Neal into a jersey with his name on it before executing an impressive reverse dunk over the 7-foot-1 former player. The victory makes McClung the sixth player to win at least two dunk contests, with the last person achieving this feat being Zach LaVine in 2015 and 2016.
Following his win, McClung expressed his gratitude to O'Neal for his participation in the memorable dunk, stating that it almost brought him to tears. The talented guard also mentioned being uncertain about pursuing a third consecutive victory in the contest, with Nate Robinson currently holding the record for three dunk titles, albeit not in consecutive years. McClung's previous success includes being named the 2022 G League Rookie of the Year while playing for the South Bay Lakers, the G League team associated with the Los Angeles Lakers. Despite a brief stint with the Philadelphia 76ers last season, where he enjoyed time on the main roster, it remains unclear if the Magic will call him up to join their ranks this season.
