With less than a month left until the NFL Draft, the Las Vegas Raiders are actively exploring the possibility of securing a higher spot in the draft order to acquire a promising quarterback for their future. Recent reports suggest that the Washington Commanders are open to fielding calls for the No. 2 overall pick, a development that undoubtedly caught the attention of the Raiders' decision-makers.
The Raiders, currently holding the 13th spot in the draft, have been vocal about their desire to be aggressive and land a quarterback who can lead the team in the coming years. As a result, discussions are underway within the organization to strike a potential deal with the Commanders or explore other trade opportunities that would enable them to move up in the draft.
To estimate the cost of such a move, the Raiders have analyzed various potential trade packages for the second, third, fourth, and seventh overall picks, using the renowned draft pick value chart. According to the chart, the No. 2 overall pick is valued at 2,600 points.
One possible trade package would involve the Raiders giving up two of their first-round picks, with one of them being acquired from Washington. In this scenario, Las Vegas would also surrender a top-50 selection in the second round to the Commanders, while still retaining their third-, fourth-, fifth-, and sixth-round picks, as well as two seventh-round picks to bolster the rest of their roster. However, the Raiders would be overpaying by 10 points, prompting the Commanders to potentially sweeten the deal by including a 2025 sixth-rounder.
Another option considered by the Raiders would require them to sacrifice their 2024 first- and second-round picks, along with either their third-round pick in this year's draft or a future second-rounder. This trade package would maintain the balance in terms of point value while allowing the Silver and Black to keep their second- and third-round picks in the current year.
In a third scenario, the Raiders could retain their 2025 first-round pick by offering a future first valued at 1,000 points. Additionally, they would hold onto their second- and third-round picks this year, while receiving the Cardinals' 2024 fourth-rounder and a couple of mid-round picks in return.
The feasibility of trading up to the fifth or sixth overall picks appears less likely, as the Raiders would either face redundancy or lack the support of teams like the Los Angeles Chargers or New York Giants, who are also rumored to be in the quarterback market. However, moving up to the seventh overall pick could position the Raiders ahead of the Denver Broncos and Minnesota Vikings.
While the potential deals discussed above offer enticing opportunities to secure a top quarterback, it remains to be seen which option the Raiders will pursue. The front office will carefully evaluate the cost-benefit analysis of each trade package, taking into account future draft picks and the level of success they foresee with the chosen quarterback prospect.
As the NFL Draft draws nearer, speculation continues to mount, and fans are eagerly waiting to see which direction the Raiders will ultimately take to secure their quarterback of the future.
