The Ducks struck first in the opening period, as Jakob Silfverberg capitalized on a power play opportunity, giving Anaheim an early lead. However, the Kings responded late in the period with a power-play goal of their own from Kevin Fiala, assisted by Adrian Kempe and Drew Doughty. This goal extended Kempe's impressive point streak against the Ducks to ten games.
Both teams continued to trade goals on special teams in the second period. Anaheim regained the lead with a shorthanded goal from Adam Henrique, only for Doughty to tie the game once again with a power-play goal, assisted by Fiala and Kempe.
Despite a scoreless third period and overtime, the Kings ultimately secured the win in the shootout. Pierre-Luc Dubois and Trevor Moore found the back of the net, while goaltender David Rittich made two crucial saves to seal the victory.
Following the game, players and coach Jim Hiller expressed the importance of earning two points in the tightly contested playoff race. They emphasized the need to focus on improving their performance in 5-on-5 situations and getting more pucks to the net.
Noteworthy individual performances included Fiala's goal-scoring prowess, as he extended his goal streak to three games and tied Anže Kopitar for the team lead in power-play goals. Doughty also stood out with a goal and an assist, extending his point streak against the Ducks to seven games and breaking franchise records for points by a defenseman against Anaheim.
Matt Roy made an impact on the offensive end, recording a career-high 10 shots on goal. Additionally, Adrian Kempe became the first Kings player this season to reach the 50-point mark.
Overall, the Kings showcased resilience and determination in securing the shootout victory, which brings their season record to 9-3-3. As they head on the road for a three-game trip in Western Canada, the team looks to carry the momentum from this win and continue their pursuit of playoff contention.
