HAMPTON, Ga. - NASCAR has announced penalties for two drivers ahead of Sunday's race at Atlanta Motor Speedway. Joey Logano, who qualified second, will start at the rear and go through pit road due to a glove violation that did not meet SFI safety guidelines. This violation is under Rule 14.3.1.1 of the Cup Rule Book. Logano will likely lose nearly two laps because of the extended pit road of Atlanta Motor Speedway. The SFI Foundation, a non-profit organization overseeing safety standards, plays a crucial role in ensuring quality racing equipment adheres to safety guidelines.
Chase Elliott will also move to the rear of the field due to unapproved adjustments made to his car before the race.
NASCAR has indicated that further penalties for Logano could be announced later this week. The penalties were issued following an examination of in-car camera footage during Saturday's qualifying session, where alterations to Logano's gloves were visible.
The violation and penalties highlight NASCAR's commitment to safety and adherence to SFI standards for racing equipment across various racing series.
