Florida Gators Player Suffers Broken Leg in SEC Tournament Final

In a heart-wrenching moment during the SEC Conference Tournament final on Sunday, Florida Gators center Micah Handlogten suffered a broken leg. The incident occurred in the opening minutes of the game against the Auburn Tigers when Handlogten came down awkwardly on his leg while going for a rebound. The 7-foot-1 sophomore had to be stretchered off the floor, and later reports confirmed that he was taken to a hospital for further tests.

According to a team spokesman, Handlogten's broken leg was a significant blow for the Gators. The sound of his bone breaking was even heard on television, and blood was visible on the back of his calf, as reported by The Associated Press. Prior to the injury, Handlogten had contributed two rebounds in just two minutes of play.

Handlogten, who transferred to Florida from Marshall after the 2022-23 season, had been a valuable asset for the team throughout the season. Despite not putting up high numbers in scoring, he showcased an impressive knack for rebounding, averaging 7.1 rebounds per game along with 5.5 points. His contributions on the boards played a crucial role as the Gators fought to secure a spot in the NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament.

Unfortunately for Florida, Auburn would go on to seal the victory and earn the automatic berth into the NCAA Tournament with a final score of 86-67. Auburn's Johni Broome stood out with an impressive double-double performance, leading the way with 19 points and 11 rebounds. Guard Denver Jones also made a solid contribution, adding 11 points to the Tigers' final tally.

For the Gators, Zayin Pullin led the team with 15 points and two assists, exhibiting a resilient effort in the face of Handlogten's absence. Thomas Haugh came off the bench and provided support with 11 points and four rebounds.

As Handlogten begins his recovery journey, the Florida Gators will undoubtedly miss his presence on the court. The team will now have to regroup and adapt as they prepare for upcoming challenges without one of their key players.
