Carlos Sainz from Ferrari showcased a strong performance on the second day of Formula 1 2024 testing in Bahrain by setting the pace at Bahrain International Circuit. Sainz topped the timesheets with a blistering lap time of 1m29.921s, which was 0.758s faster than his closest rival, Sergio Perez from Red Bull. The afternoon session was extended to five hours due to a delay caused by Charles Leclerc dislodging a drain cover, which affected both Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton.
Sainz's dominance on the track saw him ahead of Perez and Lewis Hamilton. Lando Norris from McLaren also impressed, securing the fourth quickest time. Despite technical issues, Perez managed to log the most laps at 129, showcasing Red Bull's determination in testing.
In the morning session, Charles Leclerc set the pace with a lap time of 1m31.750s, followed closely by Oscar Piastri from McLaren and Logan Sargeant from Williams. The session was cut short due to the earlier incident, which limited track time for some drivers, including Perez.
Overall, Carlos Sainz's performance on the second day of testing in Bahrain has put Ferrari in a promising position as they prepare for the upcoming Formula 1 season.
