Sainz topped the timesheets with a blistering lap time of 1m29.921s, which was 0.758s faster than his closest rival, Sergio Perez from Red Bull. The afternoon session was extended to five hours due to a delay caused by Charles Leclerc dislodging a drain cover, which affected both Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton.
