Article: Oilers Make Trades to Bolster Roster with Henrique and Carrick

The Edmonton Oilers have made significant moves to strengthen their lineup, acquiring forwards Adam Henrique and Sam Carrick in a pair of trades. These transactions also involved the rights to goaltender Ty Taylor and a 2024 seventh-round draft pick.

In the first trade, the Anaheim Ducks sent Henrique to the Tampa Bay Lightning. The Ducks will retain 50% of Henrique's salary, while receiving the rights to Taylor in return. Shortly after, the Lightning traded Henrique to the Oilers, with Tampa Bay retaining 50% of his salary as well. In exchange, the Oilers offered a conditional fourth-round pick in the 2026 NHL Draft that could become a fourth-round selection in the 2025 NHL Draft if Edmonton does not clinch the Stanley Cup this season.

Additionally, the Oilers acquired Carrick and the rights to Taylor from the Ducks in exchange for the Oilers' first-round pick in the 2024 draft and a conditional fifth-round pick in 2025. If the Oilers win the Stanley Cup, the Ducks will instead receive Edmonton's fourth-round pick in 2025. Anaheim will also retain 50% of Carrick's salary.

Adam Henrique, a seasoned player with 890 career NHL games, brings significant experience to the Oilers. Throughout his career, Henrique has scored 257 goals and 264 assists in regular-season play, as well as five goals and eight assists in the post-season. The 34-year-old centerman was selected 82nd overall by the New Jersey Devils in the 2008 NHL Draft. Most notably, Henrique’s playoff success came in 2012, when he contributed 13 points in the Devils' journey to the Stanley Cup Final. In the current season, Henrique has scored 18 goals and 24 assists in 60 games with the Ducks.

Sam Carrick, a veteran of 224 NHL games, joins the Oilers with 26 goals and 22 assists under his belt. The 32-year-old centerman was selected 144th overall by the Toronto Maple Leafs in the 2015 NHL Draft. Carrick has played 61 games this season with Anaheim, registering eight goals and three assists.

These acquisitions showcase the Edmonton Oilers' commitment to strengthening their roster as they chase playoff success. The addition of Henrique and Carrick, along with the retention of Ty Taylor's rights, will undoubtedly provide valuable depth and experience to the team.

With these trades finalized, Oilers fans eagerly await the impact that Henrique and Carrick will make on the ice in the upcoming games and, potentially, in the postseason.
