Former UFC middleweight contender, Chael Sonnen, has cast doubt on a training video posted by former boxing heavyweight champion, Mike Tyson. The video was meant to showcase Tyson's preparation for an upcoming bout against YouTuber-turned-boxer Jake Paul, scheduled for July 20th at AT&T Stadium in Netflix's first boxing event.

In the video, Tyson, 57, can be seen throwing hard combinations into a trainer wearing pads, confidently declaring, "It's day one, the fun has just begun." However, Sonnen, known for his strong opinions and trash talk, argues that Tyson's video may not accurately represent his training efforts.

Sonnen, 46, who had a notable MMA career with a record of 31-17-1, took to X to express his skepticism. He wrote, "In the future, if you're ever going to spend five seconds hitting mitts, as a way of making the audience believe you're doing a training session, make sure you splash water on your face and T-shirt first."

Sonnen also criticized the age difference between Tyson and Paul, stating that it comparable to MMA fighter Vitor Belfort boxing Evander Holyfield in 2021. Belfort, who had no prior boxing experience, quickly defeated Holyfield, which effectively ended Holyfield's boxing career.

It seems that Sonnen's doubts are not isolated, as former UFC champion and current analyst Michael Bisping, as well as MMA fighter and one-time boxer Dillon Danis, have also expressed criticism towards the Tyson-Paul match-up.

With the bout set to take place this summer, fans and pundits will eagerly await to see if Sonnen's skepticism about Tyson's training video holds any merit. It remains to be seen whether Tyson's preparation and the age disparity will have any impact on the outcome of the fight. Boxing enthusiasts are certainly in for an interesting showdown between these two contrasting fighters.
