In a disappointing turn of events, Ben Simmons will not be suiting up for the Brooklyn Nets for the remainder of the season. The announcement came as the team revealed that the oft-injured guard will be seeking consultations with specialists and exploring treatment options for a nerve impingement in his lower back.

Simmons, his agent Bernard Lee, and the Nets' medical personnel are currently engaged in discussions with several experts, aiming to determine the best course of action for the player's long-term sustainable health. This unexpected setback has dashed any hopes of seeing Simmons back on the court, as interim coach Kevin Ollie had recently expressed optimism about his potential return.

"He's still day-to-day, he's still on the court, and hopefully we can get him back soon and get him ready for this playoff push that we have in March and April," Ollie had said just days ago. However, it appears that Simmons' recovery process will require more time and attention.

This season has been marred by Simmons' absence, as he has already missed 47 games. When he misses the next 20, his total number of games played since being acquired by the Nets in the 2022 trade deadline will be a meager 57 out of 191. It is an alarming statistic, particularly considering the substantial salary the player has earned.

Over the course of three seasons, Simmons has accumulated an impressive $103.3 million in earnings, roughly equating to a staggering $1.82 million per game played. With a $40 million expiring salary looming for next season, speculation is rife about the Nets' potential next move. There is a possibility that the team may explore trading Simmons during the summer or even consider a buyout option.

As Simmons begins his consultations with specialists and seeks the best treatment plan for his back injury, the Nets and their fans can only hope for a swift recovery. In the meantime, the future remains uncertain for the talented guard, as his tenure with the team hangs in the balance.
