Sporting Kansas City showcased their dominance with a decisive 3-0 victory against the San Jose Earthquakes on August 27, 2023, at the Children's Mercy Park. An impressive crowd of 18,892 spectators witnessed the exciting match.

The first half of the game saw Sporting KC taking a firm grip on the match proceedings. Dániel Sallói fired into the bottom left corner in the 3rd minute, marking the first goal of the match. The assist for this fantastic goal came from Johnny Russell. As the halftime approached, Russell not only assisted but got onto the goal sheet himself with a left-footed shot in the 42nd minute, extending the lead to 2-0.

Resuming the second half with the same intensity, Sporting KC continued their goal fest with Erik Thommy making the net ripple in the 69th minute. Nemanja Radoja, who had been instrumental in the middle, provided the assists for this goal and the one scored by Russell in the first half.

Notably, several substitutions were made throughout the match. For Sporting KC, K. Shelton replaced Johnny Russell in the 54th minute due to an injury.
