**Xi Jinping Positions China as a Champion of Globalisation Amid U.S. Isolationist Shift**

Chinese President Xi Jinping delivered a compelling argument for globalisation and liberalised trade, signalling China’s readiness to lead these efforts during a speech at the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) CEO summit in Peru. The address underscored stark differences between China's vision and the inward-looking stance increasingly embraced by the United States under President-elect Donald Trump.

In his 20-minute address, which was read out by Chinese Commerce Minister Wang Wentao, Xi emphasized the persistent nature of economic globalisation despite the current rise of protectionism and geopolitical tensions. His speech, although not mentioning Trump by name, unmistakably referenced the anticipated global repercussions of his policies, which have been a focal point of discussion during the APEC meetings.

Xi highlighted worries over Trump's declarations to impose steep tariffs, possibly up to 20% on all imports and as high as 60% on Chinese goods, which have caused concern among the attending business leaders. Against this backdrop, Xi’s argument depicted economic integration as an essential and unchangeable trend, suggesting that efforts to impede it through nationalism and isolationism would ultimately be counterproductive.

"The world is entering a phase of rapid transformation marked by increasing protectionism, geopolitical tensions, and challenges to globalisation," Xi mentioned through his spokesperson. He insisted that the ongoing tests necessitate robust efforts to promote economic cooperation and meet the evolving demands of global growth and development.

Xi’s speech in Lima framed China as a steadfast proponent of global integration amidst the uncertainties churned by America's turn towards protectionist policies.
