In a shocking turn of events, a woman accused of brutally butchering a 3-year-old boy, Julian Wood, in a grocery store parking lot in Ohio, displayed disturbing behavior during her court appearance. Bionca Ellis, 32, was seen smirking, smiling, and giggling as the horrifying charges of murder and attempted murder were read against her.
The incident took place outside a Giant Eagle store in North Olmsted, near Cleveland, a week prior, where Ellis allegedly stabbed the young child to death and also injured his mother, Margot Wood, aged 38. Ellis now faces a total of 10 criminal counts, including two counts of murder and two counts of attempted murder.
As Ellis stood in court with her hands cuffed behind her back, footage from WEWS captured her attempting to suppress a smirk before breaking into smiles multiple times while the charges were being read. She whispered while answering questions and initially hung her head during the video conference arraignment. When asked by Judge Nancy Russo if she would plead not guilty, Ellis giggled and replied, "Si," but eventually confirmed her plea as "Yes" after the judge pressed her further.
During the proceedings, Julian's father addressed the court, stating that Ellis had "taken everything" from their family. The judge, clearly agitated by Ellis's behavior, ultimately set her bail at the maximum amount of $5 million, ordering her to remain in custody.
Ellis was apprehended by North Olmsted police shortly after the incident, as officers witnessed her holding a knife. According to loved ones who shared their account on a GoFundMe page, the horrifying attack took place as Margot was placing groceries into her car's trunk. They described the assailant's actions as viciously attacking and stabbing both Margot and Julian.
Julian, remembered as a "sweet little boy," was known for his love for his new baby sister and his constant desire to playfully wrestle with his older brother.
The court appearance of Ellis, filled with smirks and a disregard for the seriousness of the charges against her, has left the community and the victim's family in shock and disbelief. As the legal proceedings continue, it remains to be seen how justice will be served and whether Ellis will face the possibility of the death penalty upon conviction.
