A 48-year-old woman, Colleen Marie Gibbs from Salem, caused a series of crashes at various locations in Boston on Monday morning before finally ramming her car through a gate at Fenway Park, according to authorities.
The chaotic chain of events began when Gibbs entered the Ted Williams Tunnel around 7:30 a.m. State police reported that she struck two vehicles inside the tunnel and immediately fled the scene. Fortunately, the motorists involved in the collisions escaped unharmed.
Gibbs's frantic journey continued onto the United States Coast Guard (USCG) base on Hanover Street in the North End, where she crashed her car once again. However, she didn't stop there. She then brazenly proceeded to ram through Gate 3 on Lansdowne Street at Fenway Park.
Witnesses at Fenway Park observed officers stationed outside Gate C as a tow truck worked to remove Gibbs's damaged Honda from the entryway leading to the field. The Red Sox organization confirmed that a forklift driver was struck by the rogue vehicle as it forcefully broke through the gate at approximately 8:30 a.m. The forklift operator had been involved in removing staging equipment from a weekend event.
Boston Police, who were already present for the loadout operation, swiftly apprehended Gibbs. She has been taken into custody, and further details about her arrest have not been released at this time.
The incident has prompted a joint investigation by the state police and Boston police to determine the motive behind these peculiar and dangerous actions. Authorities will also examine any possible connections between the crashes at the Ted Williams Tunnel, the USCG base, and Fenway Park gate.
This unusual string of collisions has left city officials and residents bewildered and concerned about the safety and security of these iconic Boston landmarks. The investigation is ongoing, and more information will be provided as it becomes available.
In the meantime, commuters and visitors to these areas are advised to exercise caution and report any suspicious activity to the authorities.
