In a tragic incident on Monday evening, a woman lost her life during an apparent exchange of gunfire with St. Paul police on the city's East Side. According to the St. Paul Police Department, officers received a 911 call about a suicide in progress on the 1100 block of Rose Avenue East at approximately 7:15 p.m.

Upon their arrival, officers were guided to a room at the back of the residence where they engaged in a conversation with the woman, seeking to offer assistance. However, the situation took a dangerous turn when the woman brandished a handgun and pointed it at the police officers. In response, the officers discharged their weapons, striking her.

Following the exchange, the officers promptly provided aid to the woman, and emergency medical services were immediately summoned to the scene. Tragically, despite their efforts, the woman succumbed to her injuries. At present, the woman's identity and age have not been disclosed.

In a statement, the St. Paul Police Department emphasized that none of their officers sustained any injuries during the incident. It was also noted that all the officers involved were equipped with activated body cameras, which will be reviewed by the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension as part of their investigation into the matter.

As is standard procedure, the officers directly involved in the incident will be placed on administrative leave while the investigation proceeds. The police department's cooperation with the ongoing inquiry reflects their commitment to transparency and accountability.
