Tragic Incident at O'Hare International Airport: Woman Dies after Getting Entangled in Baggage Conveyor Belt System
In a tragic incident at Chicago's O'Hare International Airport, a 57-year-old woman from North Carolina lost her life after becoming entangled in the airport's baggage conveyor belt system. The woman, identified as Virginia Christine Vinton, was discovered unresponsive on Thursday morning near Terminal Five.
According to surveillance footage, the woman was seen entering an unoccupied and restricted area of the terminal at 2:27 a.m. Authorities were alerted around 7:30 a.m. when the woman was found unresponsive. The Chicago Fire Department responded to the scene, initially reporting a person trapped in machinery at Terminal 5.
Further investigations revealed that the woman had become entangled in the conveyor belt system, which is used to transport baggage. Sadly, she was pronounced dead on the scene. Chicago police have initiated a death investigation to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the incident.
The Occupational Health & Safety Administration clarified that they are not involved in the investigation, stating that the woman was not an employee or contracted worker of an airline or the airport.
