"What's deeply concerning to us is you've got now elected officials in the Republican Party pushing yet another conspiracy theory that's just seeking to divide people based on lies and - let's be honest - based on an element of racism," Kirby stated on Tuesday, as reported by multiple sources.

The origins of these claims, which alleged that migrants were eating cats and birds, may have been linked to a post on a Springfield Facebook group, as reported by the Springfield News-Sun. Senator JD Vance, who had previously raised concerns about "Haitian illegal immigrants...causing chaos all over Springfield, Ohio," recently wrote on Twitter that there were reports of pets being abducted and eaten by people who should not be in the country, questioning the whereabouts of a "border czar."

Vance further stated that his office had received several inquiries from Springfield residents who claimed that their neighbors' pets or local wildlife had been abducted by Haitian migrants.
