### Harvey Weinstein Wheeled into Court Amid New Sexual Misconduct Allegation
Harvey Weinstein appeared in frail condition as he was brought into a Manhattan courtroom in a wheelchair on Wednesday, marking his first public appearance since news broke about his cancer diagnosis. The disgraced Hollywood executive carried the political thriller "Conclave" while quietly expressing gratitude to his supporters in the gallery.
During this session, Justice Curtis Farber ruled that Weinstein's retrial would encompass a new allegation, claiming he forced oral sex on a woman in a New York City hotel in 2006. The former movie mogul's attorney, Arthur Aidala, refrained from commenting on Weinstein's health but affirmed that Weinstein intends to fight the charges vigorously.
Weinstein, aged 72, has reportedly been diagnosed with chronic myeloid leukemia, according to a source who confirmed the information to The Post. Despite his frail health, Weinstein's legal team lobbied to separate the new charge from his retrial on sexual assault convictions handed down by a Manhattan jury in 2020. These convictions were overturned by the state’s top appeals court in April.
Nevertheless, Justice Farber decided to merge the cases, noting the overlapping witnesses who would testify about Weinstein's influence in the entertainment industry. As Weinstein clutched two books, including the 2016 novel by author Robert Harris, the court agreed to delay the retrial. Originally set for November, it has now been postponed until at least next spring.
Lindsay Goldbrum, representing the accuser known as "Jane Doe," expressed satisfaction with the court's decision to consolidate the indictments. In a statement, Goldbrum emphasized Jane Doe’s consistency in her conversations with the Manhattan DA's office and her desire to maintain privacy as she prepares for her testimony.
Currently detained at Rikers Island, Weinstein is serving a separate 16-year sentence from February 2023 for raping an Italian model in Los Angeles. A New York judge has mandated that he remain in the city until the conclusion of his Manhattan trial before being transferred to a California facility.
Despite the mounting legal battles, Weinstein maintains his innocence, asserting that all encounters were consensual.
