### Washington Falls to Penn State Despite Mid-Game Quarterback Switch

STATE COLLEGE - In an effort to ignite his team’s offensive performance, Washington coach Jedd Fisch decided to switch quarterbacks at halftime during Saturday's game against Penn State. Unfortunately for the Huskies, the change did not produce the desired outcome. Freshman quarterback Demond Williams Jr. replaced Will Rogers as the team found themselves down 28-0, and while Williams managed some positive plays in the second half, it was insufficient to turn the tide. Penn State ultimately triumphed with a decisive 35-6 victory.

"At halftime, we had only 70 yards of offense and 50 yards of passing," Fisch explained regarding his decision to change quarterbacks. "The score was 28-0, and aside from our first drive, we weren't accomplishing anything. I thought it was a good opportunity for Demond to get a full half of football experience. He did some good things in the second half."

From a physical standpoint, Penn State outmatched Washington significantly. The Nittany Lions dominated at the line of scrimmage, accumulating five sacks and nine tackles for loss (TFLs). In stark contrast, Washington's defense recorded neither a sack nor a TFL throughout the game.

"Yes, this team was primarily recruited as a Pac-12 team," Fisch remarked. "It's a big adjustment playing in the Big 10, where the players, particularly the guards and defenders, are much bigger and more physical. As we continue to travel east and face these teams, it's clear we need to get more physical. Our offensive and defensive lines are about 1,100 pounds lighter compared to theirs."

Penn State players expressed their own satisfaction with the victory, highlighting the tradition of excellence at their positions. "To be in that conversation with as many great tight ends who have played here, and that I played with, is special to me," a player commented. "Knowing the guys that have been here and how talented Penn State tight ends are makes it mean so much more."

Despite the disappointing loss, Washington aims to reflect and improve as the season progresses, addressing the physicality gap that was exposed by Penn State's dominant performance.
