In a shocking turn of events, an employee of the Washington Commanders has been suspended following the release of an undercover video in which he made derogatory remarks about players, fans, and NFL commissioner Roger Goodell. The Commanders took swift action after the video, recorded by an undercover journalist from O'Keefe Media Group, surfaced on social media.
Rael Enteen, the Commanders' vice president of content, can be seen in the video expressing his controversial opinions about several players, calling them "dumb and homophobic." O'Keefe Media Group revealed that the video was captured during two encounters between their undercover journalist and Enteen, who had matched with the journalist on a dating app. While the identity of the journalist remains undisclosed, their voice can be heard in the video.
One of the most contentious comments made by Enteen in the video pertained to the Commanders' roster composition. He claimed that "over 50 percent of our roster is white religious and God says, 'F- the gays.' Their interpretation," further stating that a significant portion of the team comprised African Americans from a low-income background, who come from a community that is inherently homophobic.
Upon learning of the video, the Washington Commanders promptly released a statement condemning Enteen's remarks, affirming that such language runs contrary to their organizational values. As a result, the Commanders have suspended Enteen pending an internal investigation into the matter.
O'Keefe Media Group, a media outlet founded by political activist James O'Keefe, specializes in utilizing undercover citizen journalists supported by an in-house team to produce content. The group's website mentions its association with Project Veritas, a controversial organization known for their use of deceptive techniques and alleged deceptive video editing practices. O'Keefe himself separated from Project Veritas back in February 2023.
Enteen, who has been with the Washington Commanders for four years, previously spent two years working with the New York Jets organization. In the video, he also took aim at football fans, referring to them as "high school-educated alcoholics" and "mouth breathers." He made equally disparaging remarks about Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones, accusing him of hating gay and black people, and labeled Roger Goodell as "a $50 million puppet," dismissing the NFL's social justice initiatives as performative.
In addition to the controversial comments made in the video, Enteen discussed a 2021 incident at FedEx Field where pipes leaked during a game, causing fans to complain about a sewage-like smell. Enteen mentioned that he had to tweet on behalf of the team, claiming that the leaks were only water, referring to the tweet as "state-run media."
The Commanders' decision to suspend Enteen showcases their commitment to maintaining a respectful and inclusive environment within the organization. As the internal investigation unfolds, the future of Enteen's employment with the team remains uncertain.
