In a bid to fill the void left by Nathaniel Brown's departure six months ago, Warner Bros. Discovery is reportedly on the verge of announcing its new chief spin doctor. The studio CEO, David Zaslav, has been conducting an intensive search to find a suitable replacement for Brown, who had the daunting task of managing the CEO's voracious appetite for favorable press coverage. The absence of a chief communications officer has been keenly felt at Warner Bros. Discovery, as the company grapples with challenges such as Zaslav's hefty pay package and the potential loss of NBA rights.

According to insiders, the upcoming appointment promises to be a game-changer, as the new hire will be a well-known figure with significant political experience. Described as a "big name out of the box," this individual will be entrusted with overseeing both policy and communications for the company. "It's a Geoff Morrell type but not Geoff Morrell," revealed a Warner Bros. Discovery insider, alluding to a former Disney executive who briefly served as Bob Chapek's communications chief.

In the meantime, Zaslav has sought guidance from external public relations consultants, while internally relying on Katie Martin Kelley, the Executive Vice President of Communications for Warner Bros. Motion Picture Group. Although Kelley has showcased her talent in the interim role, she opted to fulfill the thankless duty temporarily.

One widely known disagreement between Zaslav and Brown pertained to Zaslav's decision to host a lavish party in Cannes alongside Graydon Carter, the former editor of Vanity Fair. Despite Brown's advice against hosting such an event during the writers' strike, Zaslav and Carter defiantly donned matching white suits to celebrate 100 years of Warner Bros. This year, however, the Cannes gathering took a more low-key approach, with Warner Bros. Film Group CEOs Michael DeLuca and Pamela Abdy hosting a modest affair to commemorate "Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga," sans Zaslav and Carter in their iconic white suits.

Warner Discovery declined to comment on the impending appointment, which was first reported by "Hot Source," a scoop-filled weekly newsletter by special correspondent Lachlan Cartwright, published by The Hollywood Reporter.
