**Walmart Employee Hits $1 Million Jackpot Thanks to Unexpected Shift**
Sometimes life’s twists can lead to unexpected fortunes, and for a Los Angeles County Walmart employee, a last-minute work call became a life-altering event. Rebecca Gonzalez had planned to spend Labor Day with her family, but her employer asked her to come in for a shift. Despite being disappointed about missing her planned barbecue, she dutifully agreed to work.
Throughout her busy three-hour shift at Walmart in the City of Industry, Gonzalez forgot to purchase a lottery ticket during her break as she had intended. It wasn’t until she was leaving for the day that she remembered to buy a Scratchers ticket from a California Lottery vending machine. She spent $10 on a Single Double Triple Scratchers game, and against overwhelming odds of 2,057,388 to 1, she won the $1 million grand prize.
Stunned by her win, Gonzalez shared that the jackpot has enabled her to pay off her debts, and she and her husband are now in the process of buying a new home. Remarkably, Gonzalez continues to work at Walmart and has told only one coworker about her newfound fortune—the manager who asked her to work on the holiday. The manager was just as shocked by the news.
In addition to Gonzalez's win, the Walmart where she purchased the ticket received a $5,000 payout from the state lottery.
Gonzalez’s story is one of several recent big wins in the California Lottery. Other winners include Wayne Sims from San Francisco, Alex Vela from North Hollywood, Robert Befriends from La Palma, and R. Abrahamian, who won from a ticket purchased at a 7-Eleven in Burbank. All these winners played various Scratchers games, proving that sometimes being in the right place at the right time can indeed lead to extraordinary luck.
