A shocking incident occurred on Sunday morning at a McDonald's near South Western Avenue and West 79th Street in Chicago, where three people were stabbed, according to police reports. The attack took place after a cashier declined the suspect's request for free food, leading him to lash out in a violent manner.
First responders were alerted to the incident through a 911 call shortly before 8:30 a.m. When they arrived at the fast-food restaurant, they discovered two 45-year-old women and an 18-year-old man suffering from stab wounds. The perpetrator had allegedly approached them after being denied his demand for complimentary food. The motivations for the attack remain unclear.
Eyewitness Boe Cannon, a regular customer at the McDonald's, recounted his encounter with the suspect just moments before the violence erupted. Cannon described the man wielding an ax and approaching him for money, to which he obliged. However, he remained unaware of the potential danger that the suspect posed. Shortly after, chaos ensued as individuals fled from the restaurant, with Cannon observing the assailant nonchalantly walking down the street with an ax in one hand and enjoying a cookie.
In the aftermath of the incident, no arrests were made immediately. However, following interviews with McDonald's employees and the clearing of the crime scene, police swiftly responded to reports that the alleged stabber, distinguished by his red jacket, was loitering at the nearby CTA bus terminal across the street. Officers acted promptly, arresting the suspect and taking him into custody.
The community has expressed shock and disbelief at the incident, with Cannon noting that the employees of the McDonald's are known to be amicable and that his frequent visits have never given rise to any issues. The identities of those injured remain unknown, although it is known that at least one of the victims is in serious condition and has been admitted to Christ Hospital.
